Combi Boilers

Combi boilers are without doubt, the most popular choice of boiler nowadays. They are unquestionably the most affordable and energy efficient in terms of use.

They work by heating water straight from the cold water main as soon as a hot tap is opened. Given that they don’t need a hot water cylinder or cold water storage tanks, they save significantly on space.

The boiler units on their own are now quite sleek, and when integrated with the present day flue solutions can quite easily be situated just about anywhere in your home.

The heating works on a two pipe system, which is generally found in most domestic houses, & is subsequently very easy to either install from new, or join into existing systems.

Combi boilers are excellent for more compact homes, flats, bungalows etc where space is at a premium. They are certainly a terrific alternative where there is no attic space for water tanks and are also wonderful if an attic alteration looms. The added bonus is no water pipes freezing in the attic either.

Living space is increased, as is closet space due to no hot water storage area being needed. No pumps are needed for showers, as anytime they run from a combi boiler the water delivery is very good.

As a result of there being less pipework required, they are normally less expensive to put in.

Heat Only Boilers

Heat only boilers have been in use for generations, and are possibly the choice that’s been used the most for many years.

They are commonly wall mounted, but at one time were found at the back of a gas fire, a back boiler if you prefer.

This conventional boiler requires a hot water storage cylinder or similar, in addition to cold water storage containers to feed all the heating and hot water needs of the property.

Although this kind of system occupies room, it is most suitable for properties of a bigger size, particularly those with more than one bath room as it enables multiple hot water draw off points at the same time.

Although not as energy efficient as a combi derived system, with today’s technology they are really still economical to run. The disadvantage is the install costs are greater as a result of extra tanks & pipework needed.

System Boilers

System boilers are pressurised, very similar to a combi boiler. Regardless of the fact that by design, the principal heating system and hot water components are built into the boiler, the system still needs hot water to be saved. That is accomplished employing a pressurised or mains water fed cylinder or storage vessel, usually made from copper or steel. They do not need cold water storage containers, which means no pipes in the loft space for the most part.

This method allows for a continuous provision of hot water to multiple taps concurrently. Excellent for homes with more than one bath room or for using two showers at the same time, provided of course there is a really good mains pressure on hand.

System boilers are also compatible with solar powered water systems, terrific news for delivering environmentally friendly benefits along with saving money on your fuel bill.

With all the things being pressurised, similar to a combi, the set up costs are reduced, due to there being no requirement for storage containers and the linked pipe and fittings etc
